The 13-year-old dog from the popular movie is still everyone’s dream friend.

Along with The Pursuit of Happiness and Seven Pounds, I Am Legend may have been one of several films that helped Will Smith establish himself as a serious actor in the mid- to late 2000s, but we all know who the actual star of the end-of-the-world superhero film was.

The interactions between Will’s character Robert Nevile and the puppy that his daughter gave him made for the most touching passages in the film. It’s crucial to remember, though, that Sam’s real-life story is considerably happier, so keep that in mind before you turn in at night.

Despite the fact that the movie was released more than 10 years ago, Abby, the dog that portrays Sam, is still alive and well today. She still lives with her trainer’s family, which is the nicest part.

According to Steve Berens, who spoke to LAbible, the 13-year-old dog is currently enjoying retirement with his daughter and children. She is older now and doesn’t hear much, he said in his explanation. She still likes to play with the ball, though. Have you watched the film?

If not, we advise against it.
