After the owner of the cat relocated, the cat was abandoned, as was discovered by a neighbor. The resident decided to make a shelter call. When the call went out, an Indianapolis-based rescue organization picked it up and were on the scene quickly to help the cat.
They all encountered several residents in apartment complexes, and they corroborated the problem. The only thing keeping them safe was a cardboard box leaning up against the wall of the apartment complex. The youngsters in the area told us where he was when we walked over and found him.
Since the cat was thought to be protective of its kittens, the shelter staff had to take extra precautions. But as soon as the crew cracked open a tin can, they saw a cat heading their way and waiting for food. When she emerged, they saw the cat’s three kittens huddled together on the ground.
We have never previously witnessed a cat consume a can that rapidly. The three kittens were taken by the rescue team and their mother to the transfer vehicle.
The stray was friendly with every member of the rescue crew.
