Meet the dentist who gave up a lucrative job to save stray pets.

It is not uncommon for compassion for animals and mercy to lead to life-changing decisions. So it was with this uninterested dude.

When the global financial crisis raced across the globe, it did not spare the magnificent island of Crete. Many homeowners just released their dogs in the hopes of being able to locate food on their own. As a result, stray dog groups began to reappear all over the island.

When Theoklitos Proestakis happened to be on the outskirts of town and observed all of this firsthand, he was moved by the sight of abandoned animals and resolved to take action. He and his buddies began feeding the stray dogs, but staying in the city was perilous due to the sheer number of them.

So they planned, erected, and walled off a shelter for them in a 33-kilometer-long olive grove known as “Takis Shelter.” The animals feel relaxed and secure here.

The man abandoned a prosperous profession as a dentist to pursue his spiritual drive, which became his business. However, only his buddies have so far aided him in this great effort.
