Penny, who was 101 years old at the time, was devastated when she lost her beloved pet for many years. Her relatives contacted the Humane Society of Catawba County for homeless animals in the hopes of finding her a new buddy.
They knew exactly who to offer right away. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the owners of a 19-year-old cat named Gus had to take him to a shelter. It was difficult for them to give up the pet, but there was no other option. Elderly cats are rarely adopted, so they spend their final years in cages.
Gus, on the other hand, was fortunate in that he found an owner who was a perfect match for him just a few days after his arrival at the facility.
According to Jane Bower, the director of the Humane Society of Catawba County, she was first hesitant to give Gus to someone so young, but Penny’s family promised the animal rights activist that the cat would be cared for by all relatives on behalf of its new owner. Following that, the shelter immediately provided documentation and relocated one of the oldest wards.
It was “a marriage made in heaven,” according to the center’s personnel. Penny and Gus were a match made in heaven. An old woman, longing for a purring companion, was delighted to show Gus her love and care.
The cat immediately adjusted to its new surroundings and made friends with its new owner. They spend a great deal of time together. Gus either sleeps close to Penny or watches the squirrels through the glass door. The staff of shelter also congratulated to a woman who will no longer be alone.
