Rico, a three-year-old German Shepherd, was missing in June of this year.
Natasha Jones and George Harden are his owners. According to them the dog raced out of the yard in pursuit of a toy . After that he was gone in less than a minute. The pair is still baffled as to how this could have happened.
They scoured the neighborhood with volunteers, contacted neighbors, and reviewed video cameras around the city to identify a pet. A recording of a stranger dragging the dog down the street was saved on one of them, but no trace of the abduction could be traced.
George obtained a German Shepherd for work after completing his training as a service dog teacher.
The pet only lived with the family for four weeks, but he quickly became a family favorite. Natasha and George looked for the dog for more than six months before giving up and accepting their loss. And then something extraordinary happened 14 months later.
Someone knocked on their door one hot August day.
The sound was weak and hardly audible, so one of the family members went to inspect the front entrance and said, “There’s a gigantic sheep dog here!” The couple ran to the porch and noticed their Rico right away. He just remained there waiting, and when he saw the owners, he dashed over to them.
“I never gave up hope that I’d be able to find him eventually,” Natasha adds. “I hoped it was Rico every time I saw a German Shepherd.”
Life without their cherished companion, according to the couple, was a nightmare.
The pair has no idea where the dog has been for the past year, but are delighted that he has returned home. Rico gained a weight about 20 kg. This is because of being locked. However, his family vows to do all possible to help him recover his health.
