Sadly, the king’s intimate friend Captain Ian Farquhar died at the age of 78.
Ian has long been close friends with Queen Camilla and King Charles. He was the Queen Mother’s rider, which elevated his already great reputation.
Ian proudly served in the Queen’s Own Hussars and was a well-known hunter and rider.
This death devastates The King, who is already suffering with his own cancer diagnosis. Lord Jacob Rothschild died last week at the age of 87.
In 2000, while on leave, Prince William dated Ian Farquhar’s daughter, Rose Farquhar. The young couple enjoyed romantic picnics in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.
Ian spent a significant amount of time renting a farmhouse on the King’s Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire.
Stephen Parker Bowles, Queen Camilla’s first husband, told the Daily Mail that Ian had been seriously unwell.
Andy informed me that Ian died early on Wednesday morning in Highgrove.
He spoke warmly of Ian, stating that in his younger years, he was “always a lot of fun, but as wild as a hawk.”
In addition, Andy predicted that Ian will be remembered as “one of the great Master of Hounds” in history.
Ian served as Master of the Beaufort Hunt for thirty-four years.
The Beaufort Hunt paid tribute to their prior instructor on Instagram.
They went on: “We break our hearts to send our love and condolences to the family and friends of our own Captain Ian Farquhar.” After 34 years of exceptional leadership, he died peacefully this week.
“He was highly respected by many in the hunting community as ‘Captain.'” He was always courteous, obliging, and willing to give wonderful, forward-thinking advise to everyone who asked.
“Those who had the good fortune to spend time with Ian and learn about his amazing and daring life as a hunter and in the army will always treasure those memories.” Ian had a good sense of humour.
