A young blonde woman began her new job as a physical education teacher at a school, dealing with a group of 16-year-old students.
On one of her first days, she stood on the pitch, watching the students play football. She noted that most of the youngsters were actively participating in the game, sprinting and kicking the ball. But there was one boy who appeared to be standing alone at the far end of the pitch, apart from the others.
The teacher decided to go over and check on him, suspecting he was feeling left out or shy. She approached him with a pleasant grin and gently enquired, “Hey, are you okay?”
The boy nodded, but did not make a move to join the game. When she noticed his calm nature, she decided to encourage him a little more. “It’s fine if you want to go play with the others,” she remarked, wanting to motivate him a little.
To her surprise, the youngster shook his head. “I think it’s better if I stay right here,” he said. She stared at him, puzzled, and replied, “And why is that, honey?” She wondered if he was frightened or just not interested in football.
The child looked back at her, perplexed, and simply replied, “Because I’m the goalie!”
At that point, the teacher realised her error and couldn’t help but giggle at the confusion. The boy joined in, and they were soon giggling at how she had completely missed that he was performing his job by standing in the goal area.
It was a humorous incident that lightened their day and reminded her that not everything is as it appears to be.
