Sometimes the internet can humble you quickly. This is why asking strangers questions online isn’t for the faint of heart. When you upload content online, individuals believe they have the right to write whatever comments they want.
This woman thought she’d ask the internet a simple question: how old do I look? A question arose from our common curiosity. It became a life lesson not only for her, but for everyone on the internet.

A woman posted a video on TikTok asking viewers to guess her age. Nothing could have prepared her for the answers she received, which she described as ‘crazy.’
Emily Jane shared a video of herself without cosmetics or social media filters, asking people to guess her age. She was surprised to learn that some people thought she was in her forties, fifties, or even her sixties!
“I’m 56, my guess is that you are close to 47,” one commenter remarked.
“I’m 42. “I’d guess you’re around 51,” another person wondered.
“A really attractive 42, and I’m 29,” someone wrote.
Emily’s favourite response came from a commenter who mistook her age for 58 years.
“Do I really look like I’m nearing sixty? As if I’m nearing retirement age? “Do I really look that old?” she said in a follow-up video.
Many people assumed she was in her thirties, with a handful believing she was still in her twenties. The guesses covered a wide range.
Emily, on the other hand, was taken aback by the number of people who assumed she was so elderly and eventually disclosed the reality.
“I turned 36 last week, so only just 36,” stated the woman.
And she is well aware of the reason people think she is older: she has stopped dyeing her naturally grey hair.
“I’ve had grey hair for quite some time, and it’s a natural grey. “I started going grey around the age of 19, and people assume that because I have grey hair, I am over 50,” she remarked in her video.
She expressed surprise that people assumed she was older despite her grey hair.
She stated in the initial video that her eyebags were the result of sleepless nights due to having a newborn baby. She also stated that she wore no makeup or filters, which may have given folks pause, but she believed she looked completely normal.
“I’ve never gotten any work done. “This is my face, and this is how I look, and I believe this is how most people my age would look without a filter,” she explained.
She hypothesised in her video that people’s assumptions about her age had less to do with her and more to do with how social media has conditioned people to perceive women.
She claims that most people nowadays have no idea what a woman looks like naturally since social media promotes cosmetic interventions and the usage of filters to modify features.
“I believe it is critical to remember that what you see on social media, television, or in magazines, as people have stated for years, is not genuine. “What’s your take?” she enquired.
“Do you think we have a warped perception of age based on what we’ve been exposed to on social media?” she was asking the audience.
Some people disagreed with her, claiming that it was only her grey hair that was making her look older.
“It’s 36 going on 60.” “It’s probably your hair that ages you, but you’re still very beautiful,” one user commented.
“I believe you look your age. I believe it is a common misconception that white hair only appears as we age. “They can’t get past it,” another added in an argument.
“It’s only the hair that ages you. “Your skin looks great,” someone commented.
Another individual commented, “I think people get confused by a younger person feeling comfortable growing their grey hair out.”
