After 20 years of forced circus servitude, a mountain lion may be able to smell freedom for the first time.

Hearing any kind of animal maltreatment is distressing. It’s unjust to treat these helpless creatures like this, who deserve to be cared for and loved. Thankfully, there are still good people and organizations willing to aid these unfortunate creatures.

Animal Defenders International was the organization that orchestrated the rescue of Mufasa, a 20-year-old circus mountain lion who had been chained for 20 years. It’s excruciating to spend virtually your whole life in shackles, like if you’re a slave.

Mufasa, the poor, defenseless lion that has spent more than 20 years as a traveling circus lion, has been shackled to the bed of a truck. In Peru, wild animals in circuses are prohibited, therefore he was the last animal in captivity.

Mufasa was also finally let free thanks to ADI, which traced down all the creatures in captivity. Because the mountain lion had spent his whole existence in a cage, he couldn’t live in the wild, so Mufasa was released to a refuge in the Peruvian wilderness, where he was given an enclosure.

As a natural habitant, the majestic lion may finally dwell in peace and freedom there. He was looked after by the employees.

Unfortunately, the lion’s hard existence in the circus had a negative impact on his health; he had some health concerns, as well as age-related complications, which cut his life short.

After being let free, Mufasa died a few months later. But he closed his eyes in peace for the rest of his life, relishing the last moments of his existence in nature. To understand more about Mufasa, watch the video below!
