A courageous dog with prosthetic paws receives the highest animal accolade for surviving shooting to save others.

Kuno, a Belgian Malinois, served with special forces in Afghanistan.

During the mission, the dog assisted the British forces in every manner imaginable, and even saved their lives once. The courageous dog won a medal from the country’s government for his bravery. The medal is comparable to the Victoria Cross, the highest military honor in the United Kingdom.

It’s also an award for bravery displayed in a combat scenario.

When soldiers were ambushed by radicals in Afghanistan in 2019, the dog was near a special forces unit. The British troops was encircled and unable to move further. Kuno, who has been trained to incapacitate hostile forces, ran through a shower of gunfire to take out the gunman.

As a result, his group was able to finish the task successfully.

Unfortunately, the brave dog’s rear legs were injured. As they flew back to base in a chopper, his mentor and doctors had to aid him. Because the dog had sustained several injuries, he was transferred to the United Kingdom on a Royal Air Force jet for treatment.

Veterinarians, on the other hand, were able to save the dog’s life. However, in order to keep the infection from spreading, surgeons had to amputate his back leg.

Kuno became the first military dog in the UK to receive custom-made prosthetics to replace a lost paw and assist a damaged limb after undergoing therapy. According to the British Defense Secretary, Kuno altered the course of the entire mission and saved British military life.

The veterinary organization PDSA awarded Kuno the Dickin Medal, the highest accolade for animal fighting prowess.
