A man sobs when he sees his missing 19-year-old cat for the first time in seven years.

A chip implanted beneath a pet’s skin is a regular treatment. When a California man misplaced his beloved cat, Chebon, he believed the chip might aid in his recovery.

He even put off moving to another city for a year because he was so attached to his cat. However, none of the searches yielded any results. The animal went unnoticed. The owner eventually gave up and moved to Ohio.

And then, out of nowhere, a local brought a homeless cat to a local California shelter.

The cat was dehydrated, hungry, and clearly had been living on the streets. However, during the inspection, they discovered a microchip on him, which allowed them to discover that the “orphan” had a family. When the guy learned of Chebon’s discovery, he couldn’t believe it had happened after all these years.

When he arrived to the shelter, though, he met his cat for the first time. What’s more fascinating is that Chebon knew the owner and went into his arms right away. So, despite the fact that it took seven years, a simple manipulation helped bring the cat home.

Modern chips are similar to veterinary passports in that they lack a GPS transmitter.

As a result, in the event of a loss, one can only hope that a caring someone will come across a homeless animal and transport it to a clinic or shelter. Only in this circumstance will staff be able to learn about the chip’s implantation and contact the owner.

Chebon’s ability to exist for so long without being recognized is a mystery.
