While patiently waiting for the return of his owner, who died in New Jersey, the dog breaks hearts.

Sammy was rescued from the streets of New Jersey by a passerby in late January and sent to the Monmouth County SPCA shelter.

Even seasoned personnel were taken aback by the dachshund’s conduct. “The dog sits and stares out the window all day, as if waiting for someone to come get him. “Every time someone walks by, he stretches his entire body forward, then droops when he realizes the person has passed,” the shelter posted on Facebook. The dog was clearly not a stray, but little was known about its owner until it was revealed that he was an old man who had lately passed away.

Furthermore, the shelter was informed that Sammy had lost not only his owner, but also a long-time companion with whom he had shared a home. The dachshund’s story moved people on social media. On Facebook, the post about Sammy received almost 2,000 responses.

After this sad situation, the shelter shared his story in a hope to find a new place. Fortunately, a lot of people reacted.

The shelter employees took around seven hours to go over all of the applications before finding Sammy’s owner. The shelter is overjoyed at the change in their ward’s fortunes and hopes that the new owner will be able to cure the dog’s spiritual scars. The Monmouth County SPCA also advised people not to lose out on the chance to visit the shelter and discover their true partner there, because there are many “treasures” with loving hearts who are waiting for their chance every day.
