When the owner’s wheelchair began to roll down the mountain into a deep lake, the dog was able to save him.
Harry Smith is an 81-year-old man who is confined to a wheelchair.
He began to sink into the lake during one of his walks with his dog Sarah. When the dog noticed his owner in the water, she ran to his aid. Sarah began barking loudly to draw people’s attention since she couldn’t get him out with the wheelchair. When Edward Suhling, Jacob Chaco, and officer Adam Doty heard the dog, they rushed to its aid. They noticed the dog splashing in the water and an old guy nearby struggling to keep his head above water.
“I dived into the water with a buddy. “Then he grabbed the man’s arms, and I grabbed his legs, and we pulled him to the shore together,” Edward Suhling recalled. An ambulance was dispatched for Harry when he was located on the beach. The man was unharmed, but the water had harmed his electric wheelchair.
“That day, this man’s dog was the true hero. We would not have recognized anything had occurred if it hadn’t been for her,” Edward Suhling remarked.
